West Virginia was born into the union on June 20, 1863 at the height
of the American Civil War. Carved into statehood by severing itself from Virginia's
political position, the new border established West Virginia north of the Mason Dixon
Line and a supporter of the Emancipation Proclamation. The division led
to brothers fighting against brothers and ..... The 1898
separate-but-equal decision in Williams v Board of Education is
recorded to have been one of the earliest anti-discrimination decisions
