Celebrating Clifford as a Founding
Member of the Niagara
Movement
In August 2006, the National Park Service celebrated the
Centennial Anniversary of the first American meeting of the
Niagara Movement in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. The J. R.
Clifford Project hosted a booth at the Centennial to highlight the life
of J.R. Clifford and his role as a founding father of the
Movement. The celebration included family reunions, concerts,
dramatic presentations, speeches, forums, and artistic
programs. The Clifford Project put on two stage performances at
the historic Curtis Freewill Baptist Church, located on the
Storer College campus, where the 1906 Niagara gathering held its
closing session. |
